Google’s latest phones, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, have begun shipping worldwide. Announced on the 6th of October at the Google Event, it was slated customers could get their hands on the new devices in the week starting the 10th of October.
Google announced that it would launch the devices in 17 markets worldwide, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan and, for the first time Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and the Netherlands.
Unfortunately, as with the Pixel 6, New Zealand hasn’t been added to the list meaning the Pixel 7 range isn’t “officially” available here.
The only way to get a Pixel 7 in New Zealand is to parallel import the device. This could be an issue in the past, as parallel imported devices didn’t always work with New Zealand’s carrier infrastructure. However, according to Kimovil the Pixel 7 will also work with most of our major telecommunications providers. Also, the Pixel 6 works fine here so you shouldn’t have anything to worry about.
The only negative with buying a parallel import is that you won’t have the same level of support as in other countries. Because Google isn’t “officially” releasing the Pixel 7 in NZ, customer support will be limited. Also, the device might initially boot in a different language however you can change the default to English. Other than that, it should work fine.

The Pixel 7 has a dual-camera array with 50MP wide and 12MP ultrawide lenses. The Pixel 7 Pro has a triple-camera array with 50MP main, 48MP telephoto and 12MP ultrawide lenses.
The main improvement here is the new Tensor chip, the Tensor G2. This more powerful chip is similar in performance capabilities to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, found in other high-end Android phones.
The Tensor G2 allows further zoom distances for photography. It introduces new features like Photo Unblur, audio message transcribing, and clear calling in which background noises are blocked out on phone calls. And there are many more features to be released later in the year.
