John McAfee (75) was found dead in his Barcelona prison cell, hours after Spain agreed to extradite him to the US.
It is reported that the prison medical team tried to revive him but to no avail.
“Judicial staff have been dispatched to the prison and are investigating the causes of death. “Everything points to death by suicide,” reported the Catalan Justice Department.
He was wanted in America for tax evasion after failing to report his income from cryptocurrency profits and concealing assets which included a yacht and real estate.
Prior to this arrest, McAfee has had been in prison two more times. He was detained in the Dominican Republic in 2019 for bringing weapons into the country and earlier in 2012, he was arrested in Guatemala for allegedly murdering his neighbor in Belize.
John McAfee founded the McAfee software company – best known for anti-virus software.
This company helped set the building blocks for the multi-billion dollar anti-virus software industry today. He eventually sold it to Intel for NZ$10.8 billion in 2011.
He also launched unsuccessful bids to become the Libertarian Party’s candidate for the US presidential elections in 2016 and 2020.

In a now unearthed tweet dated 16 October 2020, Mr. McAfee implies that he is happy and has friends.
“Know that if I hand myself, a la Epstein, it will be no fault of mine.”
This tweet has now been shared millions of times with people questioning the legitimacy of Mr. McAfee’s report of death.
